Watershed Description:677 km^2 Cathedral Park Research C VI; 1,949 km^2 C II (eact central South Africa)
Calibration Summary:Daily (1991; PEST; C VI) r2 = 0.86
Validation Summary:Daily (1990-95; C VI) PEST r2 = 0.65; manual r2 = 0.68
General Comments:SWAT calibration was performed for C VI (grassland) and then used on forested C II, to assess the model's ability to simulate aforestation effects. Automatic calibration using the PEST routine was compared with a manual calibration approach; the manual option resulted in slightly better results. 1950-65 C II streamflow was overpredicted, due to the model not being able to capture an increase in ET due to a maturing pine plantation. Modifications to SWAT are suggested to overcome this problem.
