General Comments:The integration of multiobjective modeling with ESWAT is described, that is based on the Shuffled Complex Evolution algorithm (SCE-UA). The approach relies on a new method in which all the objective functions are weighed in such a manner that they actively influence the minimization of the global optimization criteria (GOC); The GOC is minimized using the SCE-UA. A multivariable sensitivity analysis was also used, which selected the 32 most important "free parameters" that influence water quantity and quality processes, using a one-factor-at-a-time design while considering the sum of squares for the parameters. Combined (simulataneous) calibration of water quantity and quality variables were then performed; authors discuss implications of this approach versus "classical approach" of calibrating water quantity variables first. 13 objective functions were defined for the calibration of the water quantity and quality processes. A total of abut 8,000 simulations were performed to obtain the optimal parameter set.
