General Comments: | GCM (HadCM2) climate projections on discharge, runoff, precipitation, and ET are reported for 2020-30 and 2080-90 in the Mississippi Gulf Coast region, along with baseline results for 1974-93. Five 8-digit watersheds that lie along the Alabama-Mississippi border were assumed representative of the region and specifically studied. The impacts of agricultural management and irrigation water withdrawal scenarios were assessed. The results indicate that available water may decline up to 10% in the next 20-40 years in southern areas of study region, during most important times of agricultural crop demand. This implies that increased irrigation may be needed in the future, resulting in increased competition with other water demands. |
