Watershed Description:1349 km^2 Vistonis Lagoon drainage area, which is located on the coast of Aegean Sea in the Thrace region in northern Greece (calib./valid. performed for 10 gauges in four major subwatersheds).
Calibration Summary:Daily? (May 1, 1998 - June 30, 1999) r2 values for 9 gauges (only 8 gauges for sediment): flow = .71 - .89 sediment = .40 - .98 (6 > .58) nitrate = .51 - .87 total P = .50 - .82
Validation Summary:Daily? (Oct. 31, 1999 - Jan. 31, 2000) r2 values for 9 gauges (only 8 gauges for sediment): flow = .72 - .91 sediment = .34 - .98 (6 > .60) nitrate = .57 - .89 total P = .43 - .97 (8 > .60)
General Comments:Comprehensive flow and pollutant calib./valid. Study was performed with SWAT for nine different gauges distributed throughtout the watershed. Model statistics used for evaluating the model output for slope, r2, and RMSE; extensive graphical comparisons also presented. The model output relative to measured values was judged to be good for the different indicators, especially for flow and sediment. Estimated flows, and sediment, nitrate, and total P loadings are given for 3 major subwatersheds to the lagoon for May 1998 to June 1990. Three crop scenarios were also performed in which only corn, wheat, or cotton were assumed grown, relative to baseline conditions which include a mix of all 3 crops, for the 160 km^2 Travos subwatershed. The nitrate losses changed by +64, 12.1, & -28% and total P losses change by +38.5, +30.8, and -23.1% in response to the only corn, wheat, or cotton scenarios.
