General Comments:This is the lead-off article for a special issue published in the Journal of Great Lakes Research that is focused on identifying conservation intervention approaches that result in definable environmental benefits versus more traditional conservation efforts that often do not result in quantifiable results. Three main categories of studies are featured in the special issue including a subset of simulation studies that include six articles that describe the results of SWAT-based studies.
