Abstract:In regions where the network monitoring hydrosedimentological is poor or nonexistent, the use of hydrological models, physical based provides estimative of surface runoff and soil loss, becomes very useful for planning watersheds. This paper address the application of hydrosedimentological model Soil And Water Assessment Tool for subwatersheds 1 and 2 of the “São João do Cariri” Experimental Basin. The model, with the interface ArcSWAT which joins the SIG, requires the entry of "Digital Elevation Model” (DEM) of the basin and the simulations were performed using two DEMs for the purpose of comparative analysis: one originated from the interpolation of field data and other obtained through remote sensing. With this was possible to verify the reliability of the DEM obtained by remote sensing. In terms of experimental subwatershed, on the Subwatershed 2 parameterization was done, and validation in a Subwatershed 1. Model performance was assessed by the determination coefficient (R²) and of the efficiency. The performance results were satisfactory for both DEMs, showing little sensitivity of the simulated flow within topography. On the other hand, sediment yield showed unsatisfactory results, and also was significant the discrepancy distribution of soil erosion in the basin area estimated by both used DEMs.
