Abstract:Hydrosedimentological models are used for the acquisition of relevant information for planning and management of water resources. The elaboration of scenarios, either realistic or hypothetical, without high cost and making possible the study of the different hydrological processes results are a great advantage of computational models. The hydrosedimentological model SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) was used in the simulation of the “Riacho dos Namorados” watershed allowing the investigation of four different scenarios. The scenarios have glimpsed all the area considering the entire basin area subject to different usages, namely, the native vegetation “Caatinga”, reforestation with “algaroba” (mesquite), cultivation of corn and bare soil. The results have been compared in terms of runoff generation and soil erosion among each other and with the actual situation in the basin of diverse soil uses and the presence of four storage dams. The simulation with the model SWAT provided consistent results in runoff and soil erosion, ensuring its effectiveness and highlighting the importance of the study of scenarios in decision making.
