Iowa State University Soil Management and Land Valuation Conference is May 21

Ames, Iowa – Iowa State University will hold the 2025 Soil Management and Land Valuation Conference on Wednesday, May 21. The annual conference—now in its 97th year—is the longest running research and extension conference at Iowa State University.

The conference will offer education and networking opportunities for farm managers, rural appraisers, real estate brokers, and others interested in the land market in Iowa. 

Dr. Rabail Chandio, conference chair, said they are also aiming for seven hours of real estate continuing education credits from the Iowa Real Estate Commission and seven hours of appraiser continuing education credits from the Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board, respectively. 

National experts will speak on current soil management and land valuation issues, including agricultural policy and economic outlook, agricultural technology, weather and agricultural production, federal and state land laws, land stewardship programs, animal health crises, and agricultural market projections and land market implications.

The speakers for this year’s conference include: Rabail Chandio, assistant professor of economics at Iowa State; Nate Kauffman, senior vice president and Omaha Branch executive with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City; Doug Houser, digital ag extension specialist with Iowa State Extension and Outreach; Dennis Todey, director of the USDA Midwest Climate Hub; Jeremy Gustafson, farmer and outreach leader with Practical Farmers of Iowa; Matt Russell, co-owner and operator of Coyote Run Farm; Jerry Hatfield, retired director of the USDA-ARS National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment; Kristine Tidgren, director of Iowa State’s Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation; Jeff Kaisand, state veterinarian and division director for the Animal Industry Division within the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship; and, Chad Hart, professor of economics at Iowa State.

The conference will be held in person on the second floor of the Scheman Building from 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on May 21. The registration fee is $150.
