Professors John Crespi and Dermot Hayes published an article in the most recent issue of Politics and the Life Sciences. Crespi and Hayes authored the article "Differential brain activations between Democrats and Republicans when considering food purchases" with Amanda S. Bruce of University of Kansas Medical Center, Angelos Lagoudakis of Iowa State University, Jayson L. Lusk of Oklahoma State University, Darren M. Schreiber of University of Exeter, and Qianrong Wu of AirBnB.
The article examines brain activation during decision-making and how it differentiates between people with differing political affiliations. The authors were able to determine political affiliation with nearly 80% accuracy based on fMRI scans taken while participants made non-theoretical food purchasing decisions.
