Prior to joining Iowa State University, Dr. Alejandro Plastina was Senior Economist at the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) in Washington, DC. He was responsible for forecasting cotton prices, projecting global and regional textile demand, and conducting policy and market analyses. He served as Manager of the ICAC’s Task Force on Identity Cottons (organic, Fairtrade, Cotton Made in Africa and the Better Cotton Initiative), and the ICAC’s Expert Panel on Social, Environmental and Economic Sustainability of Cotton Production.
Dr. Plastina is currently an Assistant Professor/Extension Economist in the Department of Economics at Iowa State University. His area of specialization is agricultural production and technology, with an emphasis on farm business and financial management. He teaches ECON 230: Farm Business Management.
Dr. Plastina received his BA in Economics from the University of La Plata (Argentina) in 2000. He received his MS in Statistics and his PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
